Pioneers of the Retro Revival
Like many things in life, ‘Wallpapers from the 70s’ started by chance.
Longing for the old vintage patterns which decorated the walls of our childhood, we searched for leftover wallpaper rolls. After finding some in a cellar and completing our renovation work, we sold the excess rolls on an e-commerce site. To our surprise, they sold out immediately and people kept asking us if we had more in stock. Realising there were many fellow retro wallpaper lovers out there, a business idea was born: what if we produce a new generation of wallpapers, combining authentic vintage pattern designs of the 1970s with modern materials and the most stringent German quality and health standards?
In 2003 we launched our first models and they were an immediate hit, thrilling both visitors and experts at a New York trade fair and trailblazing the revival of Seventies patterns, long before major wallpaper manufacturers even became aware of the trend.
Today, we offer much more than just vintage models. We expanded our range to include a carefully curated selection of the best wallpapers available in the world. We handpick a number of European manufacturers we work with, ranging from family businesses to up-and-coming designers and established fashion houses.
Every single wallpaper in our online store has been chosen with care and purpose by our small team of dedicated wallpaper specialists, drawing from their passion and decades of experience. Our name reflects our fascination of the golden age of wallpaper, a time when wallpaper manufacturers threw off the shackles of established designs and let their imagination run wild, exploring new patterns and bold colours. However, our enthusiasm is not based on retro design alone. It incorporates our appreciation for the era’s optimistic pioneering spirit and its belief in the future. To us, this means always having the finger on the pulse of new trends and capturing the current zeitgeist.
